Alexandra Mas

biographie
30 ans d'art

biography
30 years of art
Born in Transylvania, Alexandra Mas lives and works between Paris and Bordeaux. At the age of 14, she entered the College of Fine Arts. The same year she met the renowned engraver Marcel Chirnoaga, who became her mentor. She began exhibiting at 17, both in her native country and internationally, before continuing her studies at the University of Fine Arts in Bucharest, in the studio of Professor Mihai Manescu.
She soon settled in France in pursuit of knowledge and travelled widely. There she earned a degree in design and interior architecture, embarking on projects for the Louvre Museum, the house of Christian Dior, Marsu Productions, and private clients. In 2006, she moved to California to direct a talent school in Beverly Hills, where she worked with young children.
Returning to France in 2009, she devoted herself entirely to her artistic practice. Her inspiration draws on nature, collective memory, and sensitive subjects, creating an eclectic universe reflective of her origins. Her intellectual enquiry plunges the viewer into a world of sensory complexity. Her painting is expressive and her gesture forceful, maintaining a constant tension between strength and delicacy. She also works with pictography, video, performance, and virtual reality to create poetic, intriguing images — but drawing remains the guiding thread throughout her career.
Today, Alexandra Mas is represented by HOHENTHAL UND BERGEN gallery and Laurence PUSTETTO gallery. Since 2016, she has collaborated with photographer and human rights scholar Marco Tassini through the Mas Tassini Studio and within the framework of The EDGE magazine. In 2020, she co-founded the Artivist Awards with Peter Hopkins, founder of Shim Art Network. The Artivism Awards Biennale, organised in collaboration with Diana Hohenthal and Shim, highlights artists engaged in socio-ecological art.
